​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Social Int​egration and Empowerment Act 2016

The legislation relating to the empowerment of vulnerable groups and their integration in the mainstream of society, namely the Social Integration and Empowerment Act, was enacted in December 2016. This piece of legislation makes provision for the setting up of Empowerment Support Schemes to combat absolute poverty and to provide financial support under the Subsistence Allowance Scheme to households found eligible under the Social Register of Mauritius (SRM).

Regulations under the Social Integration and Empowerment Act 2016

Regulations under the Social Integration and Empowerment Act have been made in 2019 for each Empowerment Support Scheme as follows:

(i)    Social Integration and Empowerment (Child Allowance Scheme) Regulations 2019;

(ii)   Social Integration and Empowerment (Creche Scheme) Regulations 2019;

(iii)   Social Integration and Empowerment (Free Examination Fees Scheme) Regulations 2019;

(iv)   Social Integration and Empowerment (School Materi​als Scheme) Regulations 2019; 

(v)    Social Integration and Empowerment (School Premium Scheme) Regulations 2019;

(vi)   Amended Child Allowance Regulation;

(vii)   Amended School Premium Scheme Regulation;

(vii)   Amended Free Examination Fees Regulation;

(vii)   Section 84 of the Finance Act (Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2021).
